However, the overuse and improper disposal of plastic have led to a severe global environmental problem.Plastic production soared to 348 million tonnes in 2017, becoming a global industry valued at 522 billion dollars and it is expected to double in capacity by 2040. Plastic pollution has grown into an epidemic.

The plastic problem also has economic consequences. The cost of cleaning up plastic waste and its impact on industries such as tourism and fishing can run into billions of dollars.UNEP reinstated - We will not recycle our way out of the plastic pollution crisis: we need a systemic transformation to achieve the transition to a circular economy.

The low calorific value and high viscosity of the waste plastic fuel are the two most significant drawbacks of utilizing this technology.
